Dr Ho Tim is Director of the Hang Seng Bank. He joined the bank in 1933 and was appointed Director and General Manager in 1952. From 1967 to 1979 he was the Bank’s Vice-Chairman.

Dr Ho is also a member of the Board of Directors of a number of public and private companies including Sun Hung Kai Properties Ltd, Miramar Hotel and Investment Company Ltd, and New World Development Company Ltd. His contributions, however, are not limited to the world of banking and finance. He is a philanthropist. His three main areas of concern are education, medical and health services and contributions towards building ties with his native village of Panyu.

He is a permanent member of the Board of Trustees of United College of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, a Council Member of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and a Board Member of the Hang Seng School of Commerce.

In recognition of his contributions to the community Dr Ho was made a Justice of the Peace in 1965 and was awarded an Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 1979. In 1982, he was conferred an Honorary Doctorate Degree of Social Science by the Chinese University of Hong Kong. In 1996 he was appointed to the Selection Committee of the First Government of the Hong Kong SAR. He was also conferred, by the City University of Hong Kong, an Honorary Doctorate Degree of Business Administration in 1997.

In recognition of his services to education and the economy of Hong Kong, the University has resolved to confer upon him the degree of Doctor of Laws honoris causa.
