Dr Ho Sin Hang is a well known philanthropist and a keen supporter of Buddhist activities particularly on projects relating to the promotion of education. He has been instrumental in the establishment of the Hang Seng School of Commerce and over the past ten years has donated large sums towards local and overseas educational bodies as well as other charitable organisations.

Dr Ho is the founder and Chairman of the Hang Seng Bank Ltd, Chairman of Dah Chong Hong Ltd and of the Miramar Hotel and Investment Company Ltd. The S H Ho Foundation, which he established, has sponsored a number of projects at the University of Hong Kong in medical and surgical fields.

The Chinese University of Hong Kong conferred the honorary degree of Doctor of Social Sciences on Dr Ho in 1971 and he was honoured with the Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 1978.

In recognition of his contribution to Hong Kong, the University has resolved to confer upon him the degree of Doctor of Laws honoris causa.
