Dr Thomas Chan Sze Tong is a neurosurgeon in private practice, Chief Executive Officer of World Vision China, and Area Director, East Asia, of World Vision International.
Dr Chan is a native of Hong Kong and received his MBBS from HKU in 1977. Over the course of his medical career, he has lent his specialist expertise in neurosurgery to many hospitals across Hong Kong as well as the United Kingdom. In 1996, he became Chief Executive of World Vision Hong Kong and World Vision China. He has quietly and steadfastly worked towards the care and relief in society who are less fortunate and the most vulnerable, and winning the respect of many in Hong Kong and around the world.
Dr Chan is a Founding Fellow of the Hong Kong College of Surgeons and was made a Justice of the Peace in 2001.
In recognition of his contributions to humanitarian service in Hong Kong and the Mainland, the University has resolved to confer upon him the degree of Doctor of Social Sciences honoris causa.
