Professor Wang Dazhong is President of Tsinghua University in Beijing where he has been based since 1958. He is the winner of several prizes and awards in mainland China and Hong Kong for his work in the research and development of nuclear reactors. He has obtained nine invention patents for nuclear heating reactors and high temperature gas cooled reactors in China, Germany, the United States of America and Japan. For the last decade he has promoted the academic exchange between Tsinghua and HKU and helped facilitate several joint collaborative projects with universities in Hong Kong.
In recognition of his services to education and in establishing collaborative projects between Hong Kong and the mainland, the University has resolved to confer upon him the degree of Doctor of Laws honoris causa.
