Mr Lo Kwee Seong was educated at the University of Hong Kong where he received the degree of Bachelor of Arts in 1935. He has served on both the Urban and Legislative Councils and has a long record of community service in such diverse areas as trade development, the welfare of the disabled, and consumer protection. He was Chairman of the Consumer Council from 1975 to 1980.
Mr Lo has been connected with the two local universities for a long period of time. He served on the University of Hong Kong Council during 1971 to 1974 and has been a member of the Court since 1972. A well-known collector and student of Chinese ceramics, Mr Lo has been one of the foremost champions for the cause of fine arts in Hong Kong.
In recognition of his public service and his generous and sustained support of fine arts in Hong Kong, the University has resolved to confer upon him the degree of Doctor of Letters honoris causa.
