Biography

An excerpt from the Vice-Chancellor's Address delivered at the Honorary University Fellowships Presentation Ceremony on December 11, 1997:

Professor Jao Yu Ching, a distinguished economist who specialises in banking and finance. He has been teaching at the University of Hong Kong since 1969 and served as Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences from 1978-1981. During his distinguished career he has been elected President of the Hong Kong Economic Association an impressive three times. In 1993 Professor Jao received an Outstanding Service Award from the Chartered Institute of Bankers in the United Kingdom and in April of this year he succeeded Professor Charles Goodhart of the London School of Economics as a member of the Exchange Fund Advisory Committee. In June he was appointed a permanent Guest Professor of the Institute of Economic Research, Nankai University, Tianjin and was, last month, invited to be Visiting Professor at the East Asian Institute at the National University of Singapore.
