Honorary University Fellows
An excerpt from the Vice-Chancellor's Address delivered at the Honorary University Fellowships Presentation Ceremony on December 10, 1998:
Mrs Daisy Li Woo Tze Ha, the widow of Mr Li Fook Shu was born in Hong Kong and, after graduation from St Stephen’s Girls’ College, studied at the University of Hong Kong. Not content with a life of indolent ease after marriage, Mrs Li has opted for a life of involvement with the community. She has for decades been an enthusiastic and dedicated volunteer in social services. She has served different non-government community organizations in various capacities: she has been Director and Advisor of the Hong Kong Red Cross for over 35 years and a long time Executive Committee Member of St James’ Settlement. From 1988 to 1996 she served as President of the Hong Kong Young Women’s Christian Association. She has also been a Director of the Association since 1984. Her interest in education in attested to by her service as Supervisor of the YWCA Hioe Tjo Yoeng College from 1986 to 1998; she founded the Hong Kong YWCA Athena Kindergarten in 1993, and has been serving as its Supervisor since its founding. She also founded the Spastic Association of Hong Kong. Mrs Li is blessed in her offspring. Like the Roman matron, Cornelia, who took pride in her “jewels”, Mrs Li can certainly point with pride to her children. Her older son, David Li Kwok Po is a member of the Legislative Council and Chairman and Chief Executive of the Bank of East Asia. Her younger son, Professor Arthur Li Kwok Cheung, is the Vice-Chancellor of one of our sister universities, the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
