Mr Richard Chung Yee Hui is an engineer and currently a Director of Central Development Limited, Yan Hing Mining Company Limited and Sze Cheong Investment Company Limited.
Mr Hui was born in Hong Kong, attended Pui Ching Middle School, and then university in the United States. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Master’s degrees in Electrical Engineering and in Business Administration from Stanford University.
Mr Hui comes from a family widely acclaimed for its tradition of giving. At HKU, the Hui Oi Chow Science Building was named after Mr Hui's grandfather. Mr Hui's late father, Dr Stephen Hui Sze Fun, and his mother, Mrs Anna Hui Kong Kwok Choy, also remain widely respected for their support of education, especially earth sciences-related disciplines.
Mr Hui himself has continually supported the University over the past 20 years, and while different disciplines have benefitted from his generosity, he has a great personal interest in and broad knowledge of earth sciences. More importantly, with his industrial background, he understands the importance of knowledge in earth sciences in a place like Hong Kong.
This is why he has lent his support to earth sciences education at HKU, including the establishment of the Department of Earth Sciences and the development of its curriculum.
Furthermore, two Trust Funds, the Hui Oi-Chow Trust Fund and the Dr Stephen S F Hui Trust Fund, were established at HKU by Mr Hui and his family. The Funds support academic activities related to geology, geography, and other disciplines in earth sciences.
As a result of the generosity of Mr Hui and his family, the Stephen Hui Geological Museum was established at HKU in 2004, and is home to a large number of invaluable mineral, rock and fossil specimens collected by the late Dr Stephen Hui.
Mr Hui also participates actively in community service. He has been, inter alia, a member of the Advisory Committee on Legal Education and the Hong Kong Council for Academic Accreditation, and is an honorary member of the Hua Xia Foundation and a member of the Art Museum Management Committee of the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Here at HKU, we often think of ourselves as being part of not just a university community, but a ‘university family’ – one with a strong sense of tradition and shared values.
Mr Richard Hui certainly knows a great deal about ‘family’.
