Citation

Citation for Mr Kenneth Fang delivered by Professor F C Smales, Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry at the Honorary University Fellowships Presentation Ceremony on December 12, 2002:

Mr Kenneth Fang was born in Shanghai. He completed his education in the United States, and has spent most of his working life in Hong Kong.

A successful industrialist, he is chairman of Fang Brothers Knitting Ltd which operates garment production facilities and markets high-quality women's clothing in more than ten countries around the world.

He also actively contributes his knowledge and experience to the well-being of Hong Kong and the wider community and has held offices in many public service organisations. He is a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and has held offices in various key industrial and trade associations.

He is currently chairman of the Hong Kong Productivity Council and Honorary Chairman of the Hong Kong Textile Council. He is also Honorary President of the Hong Kong Woollen and Synthetic Knitting Manufacturers Association and serves as a member of the Textile Advisory Board of the Hong Kong Government.

Mr Fang has served the University with dedication as a member of the Court and as Chairman and member of the Board of Governors of the Prince Philip Dental Hospital.

His services to education have also extended to his membership of the University Grants Committee, membership of the Board of Education and Chairmanship of the Hong Kong Examinations Authority.

Mr. Fang was honoured as a Justice of Peace in 1986. He was made an Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire in 1990 and a Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire in 1997.

It gives me very great pleasure, Mr Pro-chancellor, to present Mr Kenneth Fang for the Honorary University Fellowship in recognition of his contributions to Hong Kong and the University.
