Citation

Citation delivered by Professor Sum Ping LEE, Dean of Medicine

Dr Tzu Leung Ho is a distinguished urologist, and Director of the S H Ho Foundation Limited and Bethlehem Management Limited.

Dr Ho received his MD from the Chicago Medical School in 1966 and became a member of the College of Physicians and Surgeons in Manitoba, Canada, in 1968.

He did his post-doctoral training in urology at the Stanford University Medical School from 1968 to 1972, and was certified by the American Board of Urology in 1976.

He has been a medical practitioner for many years in the United States, Hong Kong and Singapore.

Dr Ho is dedicated to improving global medical services, and has made frequent contributions to the medical field, through institutions such as the Stanford University Medical School, the Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and, I am pleased to say, the University of Hong Kong as well.

In addition to his contributions to medicine, Dr Ho also continues an intergenerational tradition of philanthropy.

Dr S H Ho, his father, founded the S H Ho Foundation Ltd to support charitable causes in China and overseas, including regional construction, education, medical services, scientific research and the training of new talent.

As Director, Dr Ho the son, has strengthened the Foundation's work with his own focus on the development of community services and tertiary education, while demonstrating an ongoing commitment to his father’s vision.

The University of Hong Kong has benefited from his support through, inter alia, the establishment of the S H Ho Professorship in Haematology and Oncology, the S H Ho Foundation Research Laboratory for Pathology, and the Madam S H Ho Residence for Medical Students.

Dr Ho is a Fellow of the International College of Surgeons and the American College of Surgeons. He is also a Member of the Hong Kong Medical Association, the British Medical Association, the Pan Pacific Surgical Association and the Singapore Medical Association.

He is an Honorary University Fellow of our sister institution, the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

It gives me great pleasure, Mr Pro-Chancellor, to present Dr Tzu Leung Ho for the Honorary University Fellowship, in recognition of his contributions to Hong Kong and academia.
