Diffusion Tensor Imaging & Diffusion Kurtosis Imaging

Diffusion Tensor Imaging
Typical DKI-derived parametric maps from a single slice of (a) in vivo, (b) formalin-fixed adult rat brains and (c) a normal human subject (male, 44 years old). Axial diffusivity (λ//), radial diffusivity (λ), mean diffusivity (MD), axial kurtosis (K//), radial kurtosis (K), mean kurtosis (MK), fractional anisotropy (FA), directionally encoded colour FA (DEC-FA) and fractional anisotropy of kurtosis (FAK) maps are computed from DKI model. MK, K and FAK maps show strong contrasts between WM and GM. These contrasts are seen to vary among in vivo and ex vivo conditions. All diffusivities are displayed in µm2/ms.
