HKU Honoured Seven Outstanding Personalities

December 15, 2005

The University of Hong Kong (HKU) held the Honorary University Fellowships presentation ceremony today, which was presided by Dr The Hon David K P Li, Pro-Chancellor of the University.

The University presented the Honorary University Fellowships to seven distinguished personalities, in recognition of their contributions to the University as well as the whole community. They are: Professor Hou Jiancun, eminent physician; Professor Felice Lieh-Mak, emeritus professor of medicine and currently chairman of the English Schools Foundation; Dr Ambrose So Shi Fai, successful businessman and member of the board of directors of the HKU Foundation; Dr Tam Wah Ching, well-known industrialist and member of the board of directors of the HKU Foundation; Mr Raymond To Kwok Wai, leading playwright; Ms Serena Yang Hsueh-chi, well-respected philanthropist and honorary researcher of the Department of Psychology; and Dr Yeoh Eng Kiong, honorary professor of the Department of Medicine.

At the ceremony, Professor Lap-Chee Tsui said the fellowships, created in 1995, are important means for the University to express gratitude to those who have contributed themselves to the development of the university as well as the well-being of the society, and to foster even closer and wider ties with the community at large.

Professor Tsui praised the newly-awarded fellows as examples for others, particularly the younger generation, to follow: "in the true sense of the world, our Honorary Fellows today exemplify the meaning of citizenship. They have contributed enormously to their community and also supported this university in many significant ways. They lead by example and are indeed fine role models for our students to emulate."
