Mr Wong’s relationship with HKU is an intergenerational family affair, and really starts with his parents.

The late Mr Wong Chue Meng and Mrs Wong Chuang Lai Wah were both staunch supporters of higher education and HKU, and backed many of the University’s research endeavours through the HKU Foundation.

Mr Joseph Wong has continued this proud family tradition.

He is the Founding Honorary Patron of the HKU Foundation and has served on the Board of Directors of the Foundation for over 15 years.

Mr Wong has also recently supported the HKU Endowed Professorships by establishing the Stelux Professorship in Marketing.

Through this, he hopes to commemorate the development of Hong Kong brands, while furthering the field of knowledge through the University and its outstanding professionals who share the same philosophy and research interests.

As a business professional, he understands well that a company’s brand is really an idea that exists in the mind, and that very often that idea is an emotional one.

So it is perhaps telling that the current Stelux Professor of Marketing, Chair Professor David KC Tse, in a recent co- authored article, explored how intimacy, passion and commitment can be used to conceptualise a customer’s strong, enduring affectionate bonds with a firm.1

Intimacy, passion and commitment: these are also characteristics that exemplify Mr Wong’s strong, enduring and unshakable belief in the University’s endeavours.

It gives me great pleasure, Mr Pro-Chancellor, to present Mr Joseph Wong Chong Chun for the Honorary University Fellowship, in recognition of his contributions to Hong Kong and academia.
